August turned out to be anything but peaceful so I have included a little retrospective about what went on. September contains the same tense energy, especially around the Equinox and the New Moon.

 1. August Reflection

 What happened during August to create chaos in the economic and political spheres?

Mercury went retrograde at the same time as Mars moved into Cancer, forming a grand cross with Pluto in Capricorn, Uranus in Aries and Saturn in Libra … the three big players at the moment, whose current t-square configuration symbolizes much of the current pain, angst and turmoil in the world.

The cardinal t-square features planets in the early degrees of cardinal signs. The cardinal signs mark the beginning of the seasons and a shift away from what has been. Cardinal energy is confronting and its higher function is to challenge humanity to face and push through our personal and collective fears. Breakthrough and breakdown are both possible, and sometimes breakthrough cannot happen without the breakdown. The square energy symbolizes a conflict between these energies as they compete for dominance.

The current cardinal t-square is formed byUranus [need for freedom and change] opposing the Saturn [fear of change and need for stability and security] whilePluto [need for total transformation through an encounter with our deepest fears] squares them both. The July eclipse then filled in the missing leg to form a grand cross which Mars then activated in a dramatic fashion. Marsis a fast moving planet and its transits can act astriggersfor events when it activates slow moving aspect patterns like this t-square. During August Mars conjuncted the July 1 Eclipse point of 9 Cancer by conjunction, suggesting that August would be a pivotal time for the tension contained in this aspect to erupt.

The cardinal t-square then became a cardinal grand cross, an extremely tense configuration that contains at least four planets in a tense aspect. The planetary archetypes need to find a constructive way to relate to each other when the square and opposition aspects suggest that this is a source of stress and they would rather go off and 'do their own thing'. As they are in relationship they cannot 'do their own thing' without it having negative consequences for the others. Somehow they need to find a way to work together, or at least learn to compromise when this is not what they want to do.

As soon as Mars moved into Cancer [the 4^thpoint on the cardinal cross] on August 3 the tensions started to reach boiling point in many nations and the financial markets. All of the countries experiencing chaos have planets in early to mid degrees of cardinal signs including:

• Libya
• England
• Greece
• Syria
• Italy
• U.S.A. …and many others.

2. September Overview

The start of September sees all the transpersonal planets and Chiron still moving retrograde but Pluto stations and turns direct on the 17^th.

The retrograde motion of the planets can offer us a new angle or perspective on our life and gives us the opportunity to break free of old limiting beliefs, patterns and behavioursThis retrograde environment emphasizesthe process of review and reflection that has been a prominent feature of the last couple of months.

Pluto leaves the retrograde pack when it stations at 4 degrees Capricorn 53 minutes and turns direct on September 17. The times when a planet stations are when it is said to be most powerful - it is as if the God is standing still and demanding we notice him. Pluto stationery invites us to engage in deep soul searching, confront our fears and own our shadows and whatever we have buried there. This station highlights all the fears and issues that Pluto's current transit of Capricorn has constellated as it stands at the apex of the current Cardinal Cross.

Mercury moved direct on August 27 but remains in the 'retrograde loop' to September 17. Mercury retrograde always provides us with the opportunity to free our thinking from habitual ruts and develop a more conscious set of mental attitudes and beliefs. The first two weeks of September are the time to express your insights and put new plans into action.

The Full Moon in Pisces takes place on September 12.The full moon is opposite Venus, considered a 'benefic' influence. This lunation calls us to balance our attention to the practical, everyday reality of Virgo with the feeling, intuitive, imaginal and spiritual realms of Pisces. Pisces calls us to open our hearts and see the big picture while Virgo challenges us to stay grounded and attend to the details. The full moon is also squaring the nodal axis, creating a mutable grand cross. This is an image full of indecision as mutable energy is very changeable and is influenced by both the past and the future. It may be time to sit with any changes until they feel right and not get distracted by what others have to suggest.

The New Moon in Libra takes place on September 27.This Libra New Moon sees a huge line up in Libra with the Sun and Moon joined by Mercury, Venus Saturn and Juno. The Libran desire for fairness and justice comes into focus as well as our needs for harmony and co-operation. We may notice unfairness more and we may be challenged to see where we have become out of balance with both our inner and outer worlds. This is a potent time to reflect on what is of value to you and see if your life is reflecting these values.

Saturnis the heavy weight in the Libran line up and his presence is always a call to action. Saturn requires us to take responsibility for our needs for harmony and relationship and ground our desires through practical application.  

Mercuryalso gets involved, so this may be an appropriate time to verbalize our desires and explore ways of creating more balance and harmony [Libra].

3. Spring Equinox 

September 23marksthe Libra Ingress, better known as the Spring Equinoxin the southern hemisphere. At7.04 p.m.Australian Eastern Standard Time the Sun will move into the sign of Libra and be exactly overhead at the equator. The Equinox chart also brings the tense square between Uranus and Pluto into focus [see the New Moon and section 1 for more information.] 

The Equinox marks the time when day and night are of equal length and it is the turning point that marks the time when the daylight begins to prevail over the darkness [in the Southern hemisphere, reverse if you live north of the equator]. From this point forward the days will grow longer as the Sun gains power and strength. It is time to let go the darkness of winter and embrace the fertility of spring. At this time of year it is theWarrior/Amazonenergy that we invoke to assist us to move forward into the new cycle.

Esoteric writerssay this is a magical time when the magnetic field of the Earth is influenced by the Sun's position directly overhead the equator. Adoorway or portalopens to other realms due to a reduction in the Earth's magnetic field. This is a powerful time forritual and meditationthat can offer us wisdom, inspiration and guidance. The equinox portal is open for about24 hours either sidethe exact moment.

 A Private Spring Equinox Ritual

Choose a candle in a colour that symbolizes your desire. Begin by having a ritual bath or shower to wash away the darkness of winter and the past year. As you bathe, see and feel the past being released so you can embrace the exciting new energy of Spring. When you are ready sit quietly, centre yourself and invoke your Highest Inspiration then call for the assistance of your Inner Warrior as you light your candle.

Reflect on what you wish to manifest in your life [making sure that you do not influence the free will of any other individual] and record you intentions in your journal or on a special piece of paper. Now sit back and visualize your desire manifesting as you gain strength and power from the Spring Sun. Most importantly FEEL the pleasure and joy that comes from the realization of your desires. 

When you have finished give thanks and surrender your desires as the Universe may have other plans [often even better] than you have imagined. Keep your candle to light whenever you need to energize your desires.
