Astrology Newsletter: July 2010
Number 76
The Cardinal t-square that is the most intense astrological configuration of 2010 peaks around the end of July, suggesting that the energy over the next few months will also reach a peak in intensity.
This newsletter focuses on this configuration and tries to step back and see the bigger picture at work. Next month I will return to my normal format.
Blessings

The Cardinal Cross that is the major astrological feature of 2010 reaches a peak during July and August. The cardinal t-square features several planets at the beginning of cardinal signs, symbolizing the need to let go the past and move forward into multiple new domains at once. The cardinal signs mark the beginning of the seasons and a shift away from what has been.
Cardinal energy is confronting and its higher function is to challenge humanity to face and push through our personal and collective fears. Breakthrough and breakdown are both possible, and sometimes breakthrough cannot happen without the breakdown. The square energy symbolizes a conflict between these energies as they compete for dominance.
The planets involved are: Jupiter conjunct the Moon and Uranus in Aries, Saturn conjunct Mars in Libra and Pluto [in wide conjunction to the nodal axis] in Capricorn. I have pasted a chart for noon on July 31 below, but there is no exact moment for this configuration. In fact the energies have been building since 2008 when Pluto moved into Capricorn and the intensity will reach further peaks over the next few years as Pluto comes to square Uranus during 2012 to 2014.
A t-square is like a t-junction and in astrology it suggests at least three planets [or 6 in this case] that are in a tense relationship… relationship being the key word. The planetary archetypes need to find a constructive way to relate to each other when the square aspects suggest that this is a source of stress and they would rather go off and 'do their own thing'. As they are in relationship they cannot 'do their own thing' without it having negative consequences for the others. Somehow they need to find a way to work together, or at least learn to compromise when this is not what they want to do.
It is therefore not constructive to be pulled in the direction of the strongest energy; astrology reminds us that we must attend to the needs and demands of all the planetary archetypes involved in this configuration. Any planetary energy that we do not find a positive way to express will be experienced in its negative and become a source of tension, fear or self sabotage.
How then can we navigate through this time?
We must find a way to sit in our centre and not be pulled out of balance. This is something that is easy to say and much more difficult to achieve when the energies are so potent and conflicting.
Fear and anxiety can easily paralyse us so we miss the opportunity that exists within a pattern such as this. This energy is chaotic, but chaos can be constructive when it facilitates the breakdown of old patterns and structures that no longer serve us [personally and collectively]. This allows us to re-build or re-organize in a way that allows us to move forward instead of staying trapped in the past.
Individually we each need to create still spaces in our lives where we can sit with whatever we are feeling and use it as a catalyst to move forward.
If this feels too hard then we must give ourselves permission to deal with the fear/ grief/ anxiety that is holding us hostage so we can find a way to our centre.
What are some of these competing energies? This is a very brief overview of the 3 ends of the t-square to give you the opportunity to see if you are stuck in one end of the t-square.
1. Moon, Jupiter and Uranus in Aries all symbolize the need for freedom, change and adventure. This can facilitate breakthroughs, but it must be tempered by the energies of Saturn and Pluto. This energy is highly creative and open-minded but it can be very wilful in its desire to 'do its own thing'.
2. Saturn is in Libra, opposite the Moon, Jupiter and Uranus. This symbolizes the need to take responsibility for both our needs for partnership and relationship and our patterns here. This is about co-operation on both personal and collective levels and it demands that the Uranian impetus be tempered through a consideration of how our actions may impact on those close to us. Compromise and co-operation are called for here.
3. Finally, Pluto in Capricorn sits at the apex of the t-square and squares all the other planets… the Moon, Jupiter, Uranus, Saturn and Mars. Pluto demands that we face our fears, especially in the Capricorn realms of personal authority and relationship with authority figures. The potential here is for the inner critic to immobilize us with fear or for us to [individually and collectively] seek to reduce our stress by blaming others for the difficulties we find ourselves in. Blaming ourselves or others will not resolve anything yet this is a natural human tendency.
If we are to find a way forward we must be ready to change and move forward [Jupiter and Uranus in Aries], but to do so in a co-operative way [Saturn in Libra] that acknowledges our fears and is ready to take responsibility for them [Pluto in Capricorn.
Here is a timeline for some of the energies involved for those of you who may be interested.
